Book Review of A Phenomenal Woman

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

"Phenomenally. Phenomenal Woman. That's me". I always loved how Maya Angelou proclaimed the greatness of the female soul. To be regarded as such in an entire book, and a book penned by the opposite gender, nonetheless, is that much more rewarding.

Pastor Owen Wallace doesn't hold back from commending females in his book "A Phenomenal Woman - God's Unique Design".

He lauds us, promoting the Woman as the Man's Comforter, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. There are a few additional titles that I was pleased with, causing me to raise up two crowns and place them on my head, one on top of the other, proud to be assigned these royal and lofty credits. I can't spill all the reasons this book makes me feel honored. But one other reason I regard this book in high esteem is that Lady Wallace chimes in throughout the book, providing a solid confirmation, and demonstrating her support of us, and of her husband.

Pastor Owen Wallace does not fall short in voicing his opinion. While he praises us for holding an exalted assignment, he cautions us against 1) stepping outside of the hierarchy God intended and 2) being deceived… He cautions us, he doesn't blame us. I'm so impressed with his interpretations. Women are used to being secure, which he defines as "being provided for". So much so, that a Woman may be deceived because she seeks provision over her safety. Wow! What does that mean? One interpretation: a Woman will stay in an abusive relationship if she believes that it gives her security. Whoa! Yep, he said that. And I felt that.

But the Pastor doesn't leave our Men in the dark on their roles. Chapter 11 is the chapter of all chapters, and he labels this as "one of the most important chapters of this book". Again, I appreciate his insight because although this book is focused on the Woman, Man's responsibility is one that enables us as Women to perform our assignment and to feel secure.

I HAVE to quote this, "[Brothers] she was created to guard over your anointing, but you will have to make sure you are providing what is needed… you are responsible for her anointing". Umm umm umm… if I wasn't talking about some spiritual stuff here I would drop the mic. I'm not sure I need to say anything else after that. We both have our responsibilities; the Pastor calls us to the carpet on it so what are you going to do?

The first thing I suggest you do is get the book. You will read it and think, "did he really say that"? And then, you will feel blessed to have received his message.
